Parquet chat with Julian Wassermann

March 23, 2018

◙ parquet chat 04

Julian Wassermann is a young but already experienced DJ and producer from Munich, Germany. With more than 50 releases on labels like Stil For Talent, Senso Sounds or Moonbootique and bookings across Germany and Europe he is definitely one of the most promising new german artists in the electronic music scene. 2 weeks ago Julian had his debut release on Parquet Recordings with 2 beautiful melodic gems called „Human / Polydo“.
We got great DJ support for this release by Agoria, Luca Bacchetti, Nick Warren, Lane 8, Eelke Kleijn, Be Svendsen, only to name a few, and entered the Beatport Progressive House single charts on #2 within a few days. Reason enough to ask Julian about his musical background, his hometown Munich and his favourite studio tools…

Hi Julian, congratulations for the successful start of  your parquet174 release! Can you give us a little insight into your musical background and roots? How did you get in touch with electronic music once?
Thanks a lot! :) About 10 years ago I discovered the electronic music scene and I totally fell in love with it. I began to collect some music and tried to learn Djing. Then I wanted to produce my own music. First experience was with the DAW Reason, but the first finished track was produced with Logic Pro. It was really hard to learn how to produce and it took a lot of time.

You are living in Munich, the third largest city in Germany after Berlin and Hamburg. How would you describe the electronic music scene in the Bavarian capital? Which locations are your favourite spots?
For me it was never an option to leave my beloved hometown and move to Berlin as nearly everyone is doing. We got a lot of nice venues here!  Over the last years Harry Klein became one of my favourites. Since last year I’m proud to have my residency there.

Let’s talk about nerdy studio things. How many time do you spend in your studio? Which DAW are you using and what would you say is the central piece of software/hardware used in your studio?
Can you tell us which instruments you have used to create the individual elements of your current single „Human“?

It took some time, but now I have a new studio in my basement. I would say 4 hours a week but not as much as I would love to!  Using Ableton as DAW and Omnisphere 2 as VST, Sub37 and Clavia Nord Lead as hardware synths.

For „Human“ I reopened my project „Sol“ and tried to use some similar elements in a new interpretation. Most of the melody parts are recorded from Omnisphere, bassline, arp and lead sounds.

What can you tell us about your future 2018 plans? Any new exciting projects are on the way?

I would love to plan an Album this year and of course some new originals on which I’ll focus now! In April I’ll spend more time in the new studio, let’s see what happens ;).
